20 Days of Gold Making: Day 1 – When I Started Making Gold and What Triggered It

This post is part of Cold’s Gold Blogging Carnival and Day 1 of Nev of Auction House Addict’s 20 Days of Gold Making.

I’ve been making gold for a long time, and I can’t really recall when I started. I know I was making gold before Cataclysm (can’t believe that’s over two years ago now, wow) but other than that I can’t really pin it down. I know I came back from my break before Cataclysm specifically so I could resume making gold, so I think I started making gold in the Spring of 2010, as a few memories seem to indicate that.

I remember one of the earliest times I ran into issue over gold was when I first dinged 80 (I think it was 80) and epic flying became available to me, but I couldn’t afford it. A friend of mine lent me the gold to get the flying, and while I hadn’t gotten into gold making seriously yet, I paid it back fairly quickly.

When I wanted to make gold (I needed to cover repairs for example) I’d go out and farm because, well, that’s what all my friends told me to do. So I dutifully levelled mining and Jewelcrafting, flying around Northrend mining Saronite Ore and Titanium Ore to prospect and sell. I remember seeing my Guild Master at the time with the Traveller’s Tundra Mammoth and wondering how anyone with a life could get that much gold. Yeah, I was pretty naive, but that’s why the gold making community is there, to cure us of this naivety. I think it was envy over mounts like this that drove me to true gold making, as that mount as my first ever goal in my gold making.

I’m going to leave it at that for today, as looking ahead at Nev’s topic list covers what I’d waffle on about anyways.

Yay! So happy you decided to join the fun hon :) The Tundra Mammoth was one of my earliest big buys too although I’d promised my gnome a chopper for months before I ever got her one!

I never really liked the choppers, I have one because I sort of collect mounts (and had the gold to spend) but definitely not one of my favourite mounts. I still use the Tundra Mammoth though since it sells stuff like parchment and vials
