Disappointments with Patch 5.0.4

I'm a stag now, stags are cool

Well a few days have passed since Patch 5.0.4. dropped and the gold making scene has been…disappointing to say the least. In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few days, Blizzard ruined glyphmas 2.0 (those grinches!) by means of a “bug” (I’m using obnoxious air quotes when I say that just so you know, cause I seriously doubt it was a bug) where the ink traders still take Blackfallow Ink in trade.

This means that instead of a dwindling supply of inks to go with the increased glyph demand we now have, well, the same old same old. Apparently on other servers the situation is a lot better with dumper crop sales at record prices, but on my server the prices are, well, less than stellar. As of this writing I’ve only made 28,273g in sales. I mean it’s better than nothing, but I was hoping for a lot more, and many people on other servers got more.

While I got maybe an hour of actually good sales soon the white knights (I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and not call them the idiots, I’m feeling nice today) came and the prices are now barely getting 10-15g profits.

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel though! It seems those that make one of the most popular bots in the game, HonorBuddy, have been a bit behind: HonorBuddy bots will be out of service for at least a week. I’m hoping these idiots white knights run out of ink before the bots return and they can resupply. Hopefully when the alt rush comes this weekend at least some of them run out of ink. I know I’m grasping at straws here, but it’s pretty much my only hope right now for this market.

On the plus side I’m not exactly screwed for having stockpiled inks, I mean even if glyph prices don’t rise before HonorBuddy comes back online I won’t have to mill another herb for a long, long time. Plus, I still got good prices for those herbs (and resultant inks) so while I won’t be making gold faster than I can count it, I’m still in the green.

In other news I rather like the rest of the changes the patch brought, though it amazes me how much many players in the general population didn’t keep up with patch news, an unfortunate amount of people had no idea what was happening.

I’ve only really gotten a chance to play around with my druid (I’m a stag now, stags are cool) but I actually like what Blizzard did with the talent and glyph changes (except for the whole repurposing them instead of making new ones like they did for Cata, but that’s more of a gold making thing). One issue I’m having now is I have more abilities than I have buttons, even with my Razer Naga, so I’m starting to get inventive with my macros. First world problems eh?

One other things is that they changed how lower levels contribute to the guild which means the one I run which ranks people based on guild activity suddenly has some people flying through the ranks. Not something bad, just something I noticed.

Other miscellaneous things:

  • The 3d models for male worgen are finally fixed (yay!) (think unit frame addons here)
  • We got out collectors/deluxe edition mounts and pets in the mail already
  • I’m surprised how many addon authors weren’t ready for the patch (kudos to Sapu for having TSM ready to roll)
  • There appears to be a new issue on Blizzard’s end regarding the GetAll scan feature
  • I’m a stag now, stags are cool
  • Still no moose (Ghostcrawler promised us a Moose)

No realli! She was Karving her initials on the moose with the sharpened end of an interspace toothbrush given her by Svenge – her brother-in-law – an Oslo dentist and star of many Norwegian movies: “The Hot Hands of an Oslo Dentist”, “Fillings of Passion”, “The Huge Molars of Horst Nordfink”…

The GetAll function is annoying as it is the backbone of Auctionator which is the economic addon that I use. No I can’t switch to auctioneer as I’d be dead before that thing finished its initial scanning of the auction house, come on Blizzard.

All the major economic add-ons make use of it, even Auctioneer. I’ve been reduced to use the slow scan on TSM. Luckily you can do profession specific scans which cuts down on the time somewhat, but still way too much of a pain. I mean at least in 4.3. you could do the GetAll scan and at least get some of the data!

28k! wow I should be that lucky! I’m playing on US server both sides with pretty crappy glyphs tbh (only just levelled Inscription) but I say I’d be exaggerating if I said 3k sales there. My own EU server is a little better but prob still only 5-8k in total. Undercutting gone crazy & some ‘idiots’ still listing 10 @ 10g each! just can’t compete with that especially as we don’t seem to have bots to drive our herb prices down. Cata herbs still holding strong at 60g a stack minimum :(

Well I feel a bit better about my sales then :P

But some people have had just crazy sales, like 50k+ per day, I don’t see how they’re managing it :S

I’ve been running some reset scans with some success, but I think everyone stockpiled ink and now the idiots are trying to dump it as quick as possible, so I don’t think the prices will recover in time :(

The sales were pretty much exclusive to inscription for the patch. If you were in a weapons/armor crafting trade, you were pretty screwed except for a tiny window for gear upgrades (like belt buckles) which barely lasted 24 hours.

It’s the last huzzah for players to update their CP / VP gear through Honor / JPs now and prepare for MoP launch and whilst they did buy up the odd buckle, chain, leg enchant or gem, most people didn’t even bother with the BiS updates (like epic gems), knowing they’ll all be replaced in a month’s time.

There’s a lot to like in 5.0.4 and a lot I have issues with. The new streamlined talent system really is great, but PvP is horribly broken at the moment, clearly ‘balanced’ for level 90 and not 85. Healers are ridiculous right now and some classes are virtually unbeatable.

The vanity glyphs are a great idea, but Paladins got totally shafted on their glyph choices which are both weak and unimaginative. Very, very boring.

I’m looking forward to MoP, but the days will drag on the lead up to it I think. Still a shade over 3 weeks away and I’m already bored with the new stuff and want to get levelling asap!

I’m glad I didn’t waste any time with enchanting or jewelcrafting then haha. Agreed, MoP can’t come soon enough
