Tuesday Morning Downtime

My Paladin Vqsharix ProspecitngIf all went well at Blizzard HQ Patch 4.3 Hour of Twilight will be rolling out today, we`re currently experiencing downtime to accomplish this (I’m writing this the night before, so if something happened like a rampant virus taking down Blizzard, I don’t know about it). Lots of various things have been going on and changing on the blog lately and I’d like to address some of them.

First of all, this past Saturday the site got hacked. Far as I can tell it was a random attack and I wasn’t specifically targeted for anything, but who knows. Anyways, once I got over the shock and got my head screwed back on I secured the site pretty quickly. Not data was lost and a quick MySQL query got me access again. So it’s all good again.

Something cool happened yesterday: I actually won something! I won a signed copy of Persuasion from entrepreneur and one of the Dragons on CBC’s Dragon’s Den, Arlene Dickinson. When it arrives I might attempt a review, don’t know, never done one of those before, but definitely looks like an interesting read and I suspect I’ll be applying some of the principles in the book to my gold making. Hopefully it gets here soon!

As returning readers have probably already noticed, I changed up the theme on the blog. The old theme wasn’t doing it for me, it didn’t have proper menu support, and the bullet lists weren’t all that great. The new theme is also a lot more customizable and basically the colour of every element can be changed through the options. Only problem is it’s a bit narrow, and the forced header image makes it difficult to widen. On that note if you notice any problems with the layout or have any suggestions, this would be the post to comment on!

I’ve also started an idea I had when reading Flux’s post on The State of Gold Making Blogging (check the comments) to start collecting dying gold blogs to preserve the information in them, and keep them were others can find them. Any archives collected will remain credited to the original authors, will not be edited, and will be available to be reclaimed if authors wish to start blogging again (I’ll also take them down at author’s request even if they aren’t starting to blog again). Let me know if you’re interested in preserving your posts like this.

Other minor things I’ve added to the site:

More on topic, I’ve been kind of starved of ore lately, and my stockpile of Inferno Rubies for the patch is depressingly low. Snatched some last minute tonight but unless I can get my hands on more Heartblossom for transmutes I’m going to run out quick tomorrow. Oh well, I supposed it’s for the best, I’m going to be really busy the next three weeks.

In other news I finally got to the trial stage for a guild this week, though with the patch tomorrow it might be postponed. I was really disappointed I didn’t get to kill Heroic Ragnaros, and I missed out on several upgrades I had my eye on, including the rep ring (I’m one heroic clear away from it, I probably should have pugged a few runs the last few weeks >.>). It also heralds the last major content patch of Cataclysm, and to be honest I can’t say I’m disappointed, I didn’t really like Cataclysm all the much, I like Wrath a lot better. I know it may sound weird but I really liked the scenery and atmosphere of Wrath of the Lich King, much more so than Cataclysm. Maybe it’s just my Canadian ancestry coming out in me, being drawn to the wintery landscapes of Northrend :P
